The Samurai wore two swords (daisho). One was long; the other short. The long sword (daito - katana) was more than 24 inches. The short sword (shoto - wakizashi) was between 12 and 24 inches. The Samurai often gave names to their swords and believed it was the "soul" of their warriorship. This sword is a battle ready, high quality piece created by highly skilled craftsmen.  Guard , collar, and pommel are expertly made and finely crafted from black iron.  The blade collar is hand made out of polished brass and each hilt  is covered in ray skin and tightly wrapped in the traditional style with black cord.

Fully sharped carbon steel 25" blade and heat treated to a spring temper. Blade surface is then polished by hand with a mirror polish.  Overall 35".

Wakazashi Imperial Series

Wakazashi is a Japanese sword, similar to, but shorter
than Katana. The wakazashi was usually worn together with
katana by samurai or swordsmen back in feudal Japan. When
worn together, the pair of swords was called daisho, which
literally translates to "large and small." The katana was
often times called the sword or the long sword and the
wakazashi was the companion sword. Wakazashi were made with different shapes and sizes, usually thinner that katana.
Wakazashi as generally used when the Katana wasn't available.

O Katana Samurai sword

In the later Japanese history, most soldiers were doing battle on their feet or were involved in an individual combat against one another. For these soldiers, their tachi swords were too long and therefore a new, shorted sword was created – the katana. Most practitioners of Iaï -Do systems use the katana today. They can be easily drawn into a position for horizontal, diagonal or vertical cut. The curve of the blade provides an efficient slashing cut characteristic of Iaï-Do. This is the longest of the cold steel katanas. The 1050 High Carbon steel blade is 36 inches in length and a blade thickness of 9/32".
